October 2014 14

Saturday, 4th October

There was a brilliant Simon Hattenstone interview with Grayson Perry, in The Guardian today.

Perry gives himself 7 out of 10 as a man, and 0 out of 10 as a woman.

I added the ‘Get Out Of Jail Free’ card because of the following Grayson quote, but also because this card seems to exist in real life.

β€œYou have to know the impact of everything you’re making, because that is the nature of contemporary art. It is very self-conscious: it knows, or should be seen to know. Irony has become this crippling get-out-of-jail-free card. Britain has the toad of irony sitting on it.”

The child’s drawing to the left of the ‘Jail’ card is a self portrait of Julia Lena Morell.

    • It was extremely busy at the weekend, crowds around the Grayson stuff. Haven’t had those kind of crowds for ages. One of my colleagues said she hadn’t seen a day like that for 10 years. Come early in the morning, or before closing time, if you want to get a good look πŸ™‚
