Lucy, Nev, Joe and Vi

Lucy and Nev 3

You may remember a while back, I made some wedding invitations for Lucy and Nev. Well, soon the happy couple will be heading to New York to get hitched, and I haven’t finished recording the cards.

Over the next week I am going to be posting like crazy. Feel free not to read, it will be repetitive, and most likely boring to everyone but me, Lucy and Nev, and their guests. You can see the invitations at the very end of this post.

The cards were made from Lucy’s grandparents’ old anniversary cards. Sadly, they are no longer with us, and it was a lovely way to include them in the wedding. I thought it might be nice to show some pictures of the other happy couple, Joe and Vi.

Violet Lucy Bond and Joseph Robson Patterson were married on 27th January, 1945 at St. Peter’s Church, Stockton. The photo at the top of the post was taken on their wedding day. The lady on the left is Lucy’s Aunt Ellen (Vi’s sister), a WREN. The man on the right is Best Man, John Williams. They had been married for sixty-eight years when Violet passed away.

Violet was born on Kennington Park Road, London. I know this road well, it is very near my first London address. Vi and her siblings (she was the eldest) were displaced during the War, and Vi found herself with family in Stockton. Here, she met Joe.

Gran getting her photo taken the day she started 'on the buses' during WW2. During the blackouts, she walked infront of the bus with a torch!

I am holding a glass to both Joe and Vi, and, Lucy and Nev. I actually am. Chin Chin xxx

PS. The reason I took so long to write this post is that I really, really wanted to take a photo of Kennington Park Road. Day job, children, artwork, stuff, got in the way, but I will do it at some point.

  2. One of my earliest memories is the paddling pool at Kennington park on a boiling hot summers day. It must have been an impromptu stop as I was in my vest and knickers, envious of the girls who had proper swimsuits with little skirts on them.
