Cut from an advert for Crown Paints. Taken from a Do-It-Yourself magazine, November 1966.
Do-It-Yourself was a Link House Publication, based in Croydon, at the time still part of Surrey, not yet eaten-up by London.
You can see the whole piece here.
Poor guy, he was supposed to be using red, wasn’t he? I did think he looked a bit – sedate – for a town painter?
I wonder why they didn’t use red…umm
Because I think the hidden message is – maybe this guy doesn’t really know what he is talking about, so maybe – think twice about this paint brand? Subversive subtext here?
Haha, yes
Is he wearing a bow tie to do the painting? No worse than the man on gardeners world last night who was wearing a tweed hacking jacket whilst weeding the beds.
I am decorating at the moment and considering wearing a bow-tie for a laugh because I am fed up with it now.
